Steph Curry’s Transition to NBA Team Ownership

Steph Curry, a four-time NBA Champion, is already looking towards his future after basketball. In a recent interview with CNBC, the 10-time NBA All-Star discussed his plans for the remainder of his basketball career and his aspirations for the future. Curry, who is 36 years old, has already established a media company called Unanimous Media, as well as a youth golf tour named Underrated, among other business ventures.

Interest in NBA Team Ownership

During the interview, Curry expressed his interest in NBA team ownership once his playing career comes to an end. He mentioned his confidence in being able to contribute to the success of an NBA franchise and sustain the greatness of the league. Curry recently signed a one-year, $62.6 million contract extension with the Golden State Warriors, which will keep him playing for the team through 2027. Despite this commitment, he believes he still has a lot of basketball ahead of him before transitioning into a new role within the league.

Curry cited Michael Jordan’s ownership of the Charlotte Hornets as an inspiration for his own interest in team ownership. Additionally, the possibility of the NBA expanding in the future has further fueled his desire to explore this avenue. NBA Commissioner Adam Silver announced that the league will consider expansion after finalizing its new media deal, which is valued at about $77 billion over 11 years and kicks off after the upcoming season. In light of potential expansion, Curry sees an opportunity to become involved in team ownership.

Having played for the Golden State Warriors throughout his career, Curry has had firsthand experience of what it takes to run a successful organization. He praised the team’s owners, Joe Lacob and Peter Guber, for their dedication to creating a top-notch experience for players. Curry emphasized the importance of feeling supported and taken care of in order to perform at a high level on the court.

Steph Curry’s ambitions extend beyond the basketball court as he envisions a future in NBA team ownership. His entrepreneurial spirit, coupled with his admiration for past NBA legends turned owners, positions him well for a successful transition into this new phase of his career.
